Land Transport Authority (LTA), Ministry of Education (MOE), Singapore Police Force (SPF), Cedar Girls’ Secondary School and Cedar Primary School had been receiving feedback from residents of Sennett Estate and other motorists on the traffic congestion along Cedar Avenue during the schools’ start and dismissal hours. The situation was further compounded by other feedback about the long detour via Cedar Avenue to reach the schools, and the lack of direct access to the school from Alkaff Crescent.
The team deployed parking wardens and disseminated advisories to parents over the years to address the situation. To ease traffic flow further, the various stakeholders reached a consensus to construct a gate at the rear of the school’s compound with a connecting footpath. This provided direct access to the school for residents in Bidadari Estate and Alkaff Crescent, thus encouraging parents to walk their children to school. Parents who drive could also use this alternative access instead of Cedar Avenue to alleviate the congestion issue along Cedar Ave during the school’s start and dismissal hours.
