Tampines West Merchants’ Association (TWMA), together with Tampines Town Council (TTC) and supported by NEA, embarked on a food waste segregation and treatment project to treat food waste from trade premises in Tampines West. Initiated by TWMA, it is the first of such initiatives to manage food waste from trade premises.
This project also aims to minimise the amount of food waste sent for disposal and to convert food waste into useful end products that can be used by the stakeholders. This involves the installation of an on-site food waste treatment system (by A-Smart Life Pte Ltd, “A-Smart”) with a 400kg treatment capacity per day at the bin centre of Blk 823A Tampines West. TWMA Chairman shared that the implementation of food waste segregation and treatment has helped to improve the hygiene and cleanliness of the bin centre. He also has observed fewer rodent and pest appearances in the vicinity of the trade premises.
