Community garden volunteers and residents of Blk 25 Jalan Berseh faced problems of mosquito breeding and pest issues as the garden had many areas with stagnant water. As Wesley Senior Activity Centre (SAC) was located next to the garden, there were also concerns with mosquito breeding by the residents and staff. With a limited number of volunteers, it was a challenge for the garden to be maintained regularly and kept mosquito-free.
The Kelantan Residents’ Committee (RC) worked closely with volunteers of the garden and Jalan Besar Town Council to come up with a successful plan to revamp the new community garden by planting the greenery in several sampans instead of adopting a traditional garden concept with a single plot of land. Since the revamp, the new garden has attracted more volunteers to adopt the different sampans on a weekly basis. With greater community ownership and more hands on deck approach to maintain the gardens, the mosquito breeding issues were resolved.
The new garden was named the Garden of Love and completed in May 2021 to allow residents to create a common community bonding space through their passion for community garden work.

Happy faces from residents of all age groups harvesting their fruits of labour at Garden of Love in Kelantan estate!
