In August 2021, a resident of Ang Mo Kio Ave 4 wrote to Kebun Baru Constituency Office for assistance regarding noise disturbances from her neighbour. She shared that she tried to talk to her neighbour but was told to move out or call the police.
Mervin arranged for an online meeting with the resident’s husband to find out more. He then visited their neighbour with two Kebun Baru View Residents’ Network Grassroots Leaders. After mediation, the two households were able to come to terms with each other.
In October 2021, Mervin received another noise-related request for assistance from the same resident again. He shared that he was badly affected by screaming and perpetual coughing in the middle of the night. The source of the coughing was found, and the issue was resolved, but the culprits who were screaming in the middle of the night had not been caught yet.
The team suspected that the noise might not be coming from the residents living in the block but from people gathering at the void deck, who were making use of the free WiFi service. Mervin then requested the service provider, Beyond Services, a
Social Service Agency that provided free WiFi service to the neighbouring rental blocks, to switch off its WiFi service after 10pm. Soon after, the screaming stopped.
